Do What You Do

You don’t need Mac computers, pretty art on the walls and minimalist pine desks to do great work. I’ve seen the reblogs and the comments, with people coveting such work spaces and “creative environments.” The legions pinning such home offices on Pinterest, or LIKING them on Facebook.

Rubbish.

Start building something for yourself today. If you can send an email, you can contact almost anyone. If you’re on Twitter, or Facebook, or Soundcloud, or Etsy – there are no limits.

Excuses? Sure, there’s plenty of those. But I don’t have time for those.

Above are my materials for creating Seth W. Robots. The only desk I have is that of my friends, or a coffee shop in whatever town, or the creaky plastic chair in a bus station. In a months time I’ve scraped an income from paper, Sharpie’s, and stamps.

Like you, I doubted. My friend Jay said a year and a half ago that he liked my robots, but I shrugged it off. If I could have taken those supportive words a year ago and started offering my robots, well, I’d have a full year and a half experience on Etsy. At e-commerce. At customer service.

But the second best time to start is now, and for that I’m thankful. Just one month ago (January 12, 2012) I opened shop on Etsy, and things are working well.

I finally stopped with the excuse, “I need more drawings.”
I finally stopped with the excuse, “I don’t know enough about e-commerce.”
I finally stopped with the excuse, “I don’t know enough about Etsy.”

I stopped with the excuses and started. You should do the same.

UPDATE: My robots are now for sale using Big Cartel.
